We get so used to it but I try to focus each day on utterly insane it is. But then you just can’t stand to think about him anymore, how can anyone be that dumb or be evil and dumb enough to support him back in 2016 and especially now? Humanity is doomed if close to fifty percent of the population is totally cool with this. America is looking like the kids in school that are proud they haven’t learned anything and end up in the special class in the temporary building past the football field.
The new lows just keep getting lower, this calls for a new round of minefield donkey:

If in your view the entire world revolves around you, then of course any view point contradictory to your own is automatically an assault against you yourself.
The man could just go along with the experts and acknowledge this is a tricky and evolving situation with no easy solutions - but that would mean admitting that he’s not the smartest, best, know-all of all time.

At this point there are only 2 types of people left:
people who insist that trump is still somehow a net good despite everything he is and says
Everyone else.
I’ m a fraid there isn’t going to be a lot of crossover anymore.
Taking his political actions entirely out of the equation what it takes to be a trump supporter at this point is a set of comprehensive blinders to everything else about him and his administration.
To be a trump supporter is to say “yes he is an idiot, an amoral nutjob, a starved for attention reality star, a general danger to social progress (or even social entropy) , an enabler and advocate political division, a friend to despicable despots, monetarily and politically compromised to our enemies and quite possibly the biggest personal embarrassment to the office in living memory...but he said that thing I like/did that thing I agree with so he’s alright with me. ”
It’ s a trend I’ve noticed over the last 4 years of people simply being able to brush aside the blatant and open horrors for some kind of mild political gain in their favor . I realize capitalism says “I vote for the guy that does right for me and me alone” but even then, what are the net costs for minor wins weighed against everything else?

The sheer levels of his ignorance that man has is staggering.
Then there are the people who voted for him, wow, just wow.
First it was a study funded in part by his own government’s National Institutes of Health that raised alarms about the use of hydroxychloroquine, finding higher overall mortality in coronavirus patients who took the drug while in Veterans Administration hospitals. Trump and many of his allies had been touting the drug as a miracle cure, and Trump this week revealed that he has been taking it to try to ward off the virus — despite an FDA warning last month that it should only be used in hospital settings or clinical trials because of the risk of serious side effects, including life-threatening heart problems.
Why aren’t we encouraging him to take more of it again?

Trump is so awful he makes Biden look like a good choice
If Biden wasn’t Obama’s VP, he would have done no better than John Delaney. Come to think of it, Delaney would’ve been the best choice to put against Trump. He’s sane, not old, is experienced enough but not quite a career politician, has good ideas and good plans including universal healthcare, and understands that the US is more than the coasts, but he won’t
even be considered for VP since Biden actually remembers he said he’d pick a woman because he has to pander to identity politics and cover for his own (even without Tara Reade)
sleazy history
albeit not as bad as Trump’s
Unfortunately, this got me grayed from Jezebel. I’m not a Delaniac, just a blue no matter who because we gotta stop Trump and Delaney would be the safe choice and the best chance.
I hope Biden picks Warren, but he’ll probably end up choosing Harris

My worry is that like so many of the things that happen he’s in a good position to BS his way back into their hearts. i.e. if its a terrible situation the n “I was great but it was the darn [governors /who/chinese/etc] who are the real enemies that made this happen.” or “see it wasn’t bad, because I’ m a genius and fixed it and those libs were just cry babies about the whole thing” (despite the facts that it wasn’t bad because of actions he wasn’t involved with or even directly opposed). What’ s really sad is that he’ll clearly tell someone either one of these depending on what they want to hear.

Having ER docs come out and talk out their ass, saying the CDC vastly overestimates mortality rates because “math is hard”, isn’t helping things on the scientific front. We niw have medical professionals downplaying the flu, because everyone, not just Trump, have lost their minds.
Gotta say, as a student, I’ve been working directly with research scientists in labs, and not once have we ever given a shit what Trump has to say on anything. They’ve mostly been concerned with what’s gonna happen next year, since a good portion of grad students had to leave, and you can’t use federal funds to pay furloughed staff.

As far as I know, each doc that has come out has quickly been disproven by their colleagues, and yes, believe it or not, it doesn’t t ake brains to be a physician. Between my wife’s friends in med school and myself teaching full fledged docs how to use a pipette , the M.D. title means very little to me.
And you should be terrified of what Trump has said regarding research. My and thous ands of other jobs are funded from federal grants, which he has said time and time again he is cutting funding

I have a pre med degree, trust me, I know. One of the reasons I chose not to pursue medical school was because I saw how many dummies could get an MD, and it clued me onto how fucked our healthcare system was.
I also know actual medical research takes a long time and a critical eye. We didn ’t even know this thing exis ted a year ago. No one is truly disproving anyone at this point. Nothing is obvious or easy when it comes to biology. People are always intimidated when it comes to things like physics. They don’t understand that basic biology is dumbed down to an incredible degree to make it even remotely understandable to the general population.
As far as we know, math doesn’t change, we just discover more about it. We know for certain that biology changes. We can develop math to explain some of the change, but not all of it.

I’m starting to learn how some cultures, with long memories, build in a hardness to their communities through certain social norms and child rearing . Many without even realizing it. I would include the LDS community into this category. Everything is always changing. Nothing is permanent. Building strong communities, regardless of what you believe, is what matters.

Biden tried twice before, both with poor results. He ran in 2008 against Obama, and back in 1988 when he was actually
young enough to handle the job. One of the reasons Biden didn’
t run in 2016 was because he thought he might be too old, and it could’ve also been a reason Obama chose Biden in the first place: because he’d be too old to run on his own and ride Obama’s coattails.
This guy
can’t speak a coherent sentence, may have dementia, the sniffing girls, and a long record of being on the wrong side of history. He consistently told
people not to vote for him during his campaign events.
Why else would Biden be so popular when his key accomplishments are the war on drugs, the way he treated Anita Hill during the Clarence Thomas hearing, and the 90s crime bill? Most people who voted for him probably see Biden as a third term of Obama.
What else made Biden viable now when he wasn’
t viable the last two times? And with the
extra age and declining ability on
top of that.

That’s not really an issue with Capitalism.
It’s act ually a long-standing and well known problem with popular democracy. The main flaw with democracy is that at times it can devolve in demagoguery. At that’s when the common idiot voter votes for short term self-interest over long term public good.

I agree with everything that you said - and as I said before, from a policy position or an excitement as a candidate perspective there is absolutely nothing there for me. Yet he is still miles ahead of Trump, that’s the main reason I will vote for him. Our primary was on Tuesday, I guarantee you that I still didn’t vote for him even knowing that it won’t change a damn thing.
For the majority that did pick him through the primary process though, the Obama VP credential is a big part of that. And many people are OK with his political positions - which I find to be 100% fence sitting (which usually results in falling over in to the wrong side of the fence on a regular basis) . All I meant was that you can’t take out the Obama connection as to why he is in the position he is currently in given that it is a huge, if not the main, driver .

I’m just... I’ve given up on us as a society. I’ve brought it up recently; I looked at some pics I took of my grandparents’ old WWII ration books. Four years of rationing of food and essential goods, four years of having to watch their sons drafted and facing never seeing them again. They could put up with that for years for the greater good.
